Match 6 – Quetta Gladiators vs Islamabad United

The PSL is getting heated up day by day thanks to some enthralling matches every day. All the six sides are looking very competitive, as fans await a stunning fourth edition to come to Pakistan.

The Multan Sultans toppled the defending champs, Islamabad United in the day game on Saturday, while the Lahore Qalandars finally got their win over fierce rivals, Karachi Kings.

Now the Super League moves into the first Sunday of the edition, where two of the strongest franchises meet in the day game of the double-header. The Quetta Gladiators meet the two-time champions Islamabad United in an eagerly-anticipated contest.

The finalists of the inaugural edition of the PSL will lock horns in Dubai, in a game that starts at 3.30 PM local time.

Both sides look brilliant on paper, with Quetta Gladiators having some strong T20 names in their line-up. The re-emergence of Umar Akmal and the presence of foreign fire-powers including Shane Watson, Rilee Rossouw and Dwayne Smith make the two-time finalists a formidable unit. Moreover, the Gladiators also possess seasoned T20 specialists bowlers including Mohammad Nawaz and Sohail Tanvir, who will be targeting a strong Islamabad side.

On the other hand, Islamabad United will be disappointed at their loss to Multan Sultans in a low-scoring affair. Apart from Ronchi, none of the batters could stamp authority on the Sultans bowlers. However, Mohammad Sami will be taking the fight shown by his bowlers as a positive moving onto their second game of the tournament. Nevertheless, it is the batting that will be of major concern for the defending champs, and they might make changes to strengthen that department.

Players to watch out for:

Coming on the back of a brilliant BPL season where he topped the run-scoring charts, Rilee Rossouw will be an integral part of Quetta’s batting line-up. The left-hander got a start in the opening game against Peshawar, but failed to carry on. However, the 29-year-old will be itching to get his name among the top-scorers just like in the previous editions of the PSL.

A disappointing outing against the Multan Sultans saw Asif Ali being dismissed for only two runs thanks to a brilliant catch by the keeper. However, the big hitter is always a few hits away from getting back into form and this could be evidenced through his knock in the opening game against Lahore. With that being said, Asif will be the key for Islamabad to get a big score.

Predicted playing XI:

Quetta Gladiators: 1. Ahmed Shehzad, 2. Shane Watson, 3. Rilee Rossouw, 4. Umar Akmal, 5. Sarfraz Ahmed (wk & capt), 6. Dwayne Smith, 7. Mohammad Nawaz, 8. Sohail Tanvir, 9. Mohammad Irfan Jnr, 10. Fawad Ahmed, 11. Ghulam Mudassir

Islamabad United: 1. Luke Ronchi (wk), 2. Sahibzada Farhan, 3. Ian Bell, 4. Hussain Talat, 5. Cameron Delport, 6. Asif Ali, 7. Shadab Khan, 8. Faheem Ashraf, 9. Wayne Parnell, 10. Mohammad Sami (capt), 11. Mohammad Musa

The finalists of the Pakistan Super League’s inaugural edition meet again, in a rivalry which seems to be intensifying after every game. Both squads are balanced but Quetta Gladiators will have an edge over the defending champions going into the match due to their well-experienced batting and bowling order.
