PSL 4 players Retention list revealed

Since Pakistan Super League (PSL) is around the corner, all the six franchises have released their respective retention list after completing the trade with other franchises. All the teams had to retain maximum 10 players including local and foreign.

The big news to come out of the retention list was the big name missing from the list, Karachi Kings president Shahid Afridi’s name was missing from the retention list which means he will now go back to the draft and will be picked by any team. A few days back Mohammad Hafeez also decided to leave Peshawar Zalmi and go back to the draft. PSL draft is for the first time heading to state capital Islamabad and will take place on 20th November 2018.

So far Quetta Gladiators have traded spinner Hassan Khan and Rahat Ali for Sunil Narine and Umar Akmal with Lahore Qalandars. Earlier Sohail Tanvir also moved to Gladiators after representing Multan Sultans in season 3.

Islamabad United

Interestingly defending champions Islamabad United have released their star captain Misbah ul Haq and might keep him as a mentor. Also, the two-time champion side retained 9 local players and a single foreign player in the form of Luke Ronchi in the Platinum category. The other retentions are Shadab Khan and Faheem Ashraf in Platinum, Asif Ali and Mohammad Sami in Diamond, Rumman Raees in Gold and Zafar Gohar, Sahibzada Farhan, Waqas Maqsood and Hussain Talat in the Silver category with Hussain Talat being appointed as United’s ambassador.

Peshawar Zalmi

Runner-up Peshawar Zalmi retained 2 foreign and 6 local players. Wahab Riaz and Hasan Ali in Platinum, Captain Darren Sammy and Kamran Akmal in Diamond with Kamran as their ambassador. Liam Dawson has been retained in Gold, upcoming pace sensation Umaid Asif and Khalid Usman in Silver while Sameen Gul in Emerging.

Karachi Kings

Karachi Kings retained 3 foreign and 5 local players. Colin Munro who has national duties at the time of league, has been retained by Kings in Platinum along with number 1 T20 batsman in the world Babar Azam and Mohammad Amir. Colin Ingram has been made Kings’ ambassador and is retained in Diamond with Captain Imad Wasim and Usman Shinwari. Mohammad Rizwan and Ravi Bopara are placed in the Gold category.

Quetta Gladiators

Quetta Gladiators have welcomed three new players, two from Qalandars and one from former Multan Sultans. Their star captain who is also the captain of Pakistan side, Sarfaraz Ahmed is placed in Platinum along with newcomer from Qalandars, Sunil Narine. Shane Watson who is also their mentor for the upcoming season is placed in Diamond alongside Sohail Tanvir and Mohammad Nawaz. Rilee Rossouw has been named as their ambassador and is placed in Gold with Umar Akmal. Saud Shakeel and Anwar Ali are in the Silver category.

Lahore Qalandars

Lahore Qalandars have only retained Fakhar Zaman in Platinum category. Also their former captain Brendon McCullum has parted ways with his team. Yasir Shah has been retained in Diamond, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Anton Devcich and Rahat Ali are in Gold while Agha Salman, Sohail Akhtar and Hassan Khan are placed in the Silver category. Qalandars have not announced their mentor and ambassador yet.

The Sixth Team(Former Multan Sultans)

The sixth franchise formerly known as Multan Sultans retained Shoaib Malik in Platinum, Junaid Khan and Mohammad Irfan – the ambassador in Diamond, Shan Masood in Gold, Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Irfan Khan and Umar Siddiq in Silver while Mohammad Junaid in Emerging. This team did not retain any foreign player. The bidding of the sixth franchise will be done after the draft.

6. Islamabad United
PSL will kick-off in Dubai from 14th February 2019.
